Modelling tidal and storm surges in the Humber

A team from Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences has just had their research on modelling tidal and storm surges and flooding accepted for publication in Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science. The work led by Post-Doctoral RA Chris Skinner, Tom Coulthard and Dan Parsons, and involved collaborations with both the Environment Agency and Associated British Ports, demonstrated that the newly developed model is able to capture the hydraulics and flooding from the December 2013 tidal surge and flood on the Humber. Work is now extending the research to model the longer-term future flood risk in the Humber catchment with a range of future environmental and development/management scenarios.
