The oldest lake in Europe? Core researcher attends ancient lake workshop

Lake Ohrid

Jane Reed will be attending a specialist Ohrid workshop at the University of Utrecht from 4-5 December 2014.

Jane is a core member of this major research project (SCOPSCO, Principal Investigator: Bernd Wagner, Cologne). The research aims to reconstruct past climate change and evolution over the last >1 million years, by analysing lake sediment core retrieved from the ancient Lake Ohrid, in Macedonia, during summer 2013.

The workshop focuses on defining plans for diatom analysis (single-celled algae), a key indicator for past changes in lake productivity linked to temperature change over glacial-interglacial cycles.

Jane recently organised a successful the 4th Ohrid International Continental Scientific Drilling Program workshop in Hull, attended by 27 international scientists.
